Lumecca IPL Photofacial

For the sun damage, the redness, the spots you've been covering up for years.

Lumecca is InMode's most advanced IPL — Intense Pulsed Light — system. The same InMode platform NEA uses across its treatment menu. Where standard IPL devices found at spas deliver broad, lower-energy light pulses that take five to six sessions to produce meaningful change, Lumecca delivers up to three times the energy of conventional devices — achieving in one to three sessions what standard IPL takes months to approximate.

The light energy is absorbed by the targets in your skin — melanin in pigmented lesions, oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels — heating and breaking them down without affecting the surrounding tissue. The treated spots darken briefly before shedding naturally. The vessels are gradually absorbed by the body. What's left is clearer, more even, more luminous skin.

What it Treats:

Lumecca addresses both pigmentation and vascular concerns — which is what makes it unusually versatile for a single treatment.

Pigmentation and sun damage: Sun spots · Age spots · Freckles · Solar lentigines · General photoaging and uneven tone

Vascular concerns: Rosacea · Diffuse facial redness · Broken capillaries · Spider veins · Thread veins · Cherry angiomas

Treatment areas include: Face · Neck · Décolleté · Hands · Arms

Multiple concerns can often be addressed in a single session.

What to Expect:

The treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on the areas being treated. A cooling gel is applied first, and the Lumecca handpiece delivers rapid pulses of light across the skin in a systematic pass.

The sensation is a warm snap — brief, tolerable, and significantly more comfortable than most people anticipate. The built-in cooling tip manages the heat at the point of delivery, making the experience far more pleasant than older IPL systems.

Immediately after, skin may appear slightly red and warm — similar to mild sunburn — which resolves within a few hours. In the following days, pigmented lesions will darken. This is not cause for concern — it's the treatment working. The darkened spots shed naturally within seven to fourteen days, revealing the clearer skin underneath.

Sun protection is non-negotiable during and after the healing period. Emily will walk you through exactly what to expect before you leave so nothing surprises you.

Results:

When: Pigmented lesions shed and clear within 7–14 days. Vascular improvements visible within 1–2 weeks. Overall tone and luminosity continues improving over 4–6 weeks

How long: Long-lasting, particularly for discrete pigmented lesions. Vascular conditions like rosacea may benefit from annual maintenance

What affects it: Sun exposure habits after treatment, skin type, the number of sessions, and how consistently SPF is worn going forward

Most clients see significant improvement after a single session. One to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is the standard protocol — the number depends on the extent of concerns being treated.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Lumecca is appropriate for adults with pigmentation, sun damage, redness, or vascular concerns who want real, visible improvement without downtime.

A note on timing: fall and winter are the ideal window for IPL treatment. Avoiding significant sun exposure for four weeks before and after treatment is essential — and considerably easier when UV levels are naturally lower. If you're booking in summer, diligent SPF compliance is required before and after treatment.

If you have a history of cold sores, let Emily know — antiviral medication may be recommended before treatment on or near the lip area. Active tanning, recent sun exposure, and certain photosensitising medications are contraindications — Emily will review your history before proceeding.

A consultation is recommended before your first Lumecca session to assess your concerns, confirm suitability, and establish a realistic session plan.

The Questions People Actually Ask:

01. The spots look darker after treatment. Did something go wrong? No — this is exactly what's supposed to happen and it means the treatment is working. Pigmented lesions absorb the light energy and darken temporarily before shedding. It looks alarming if you're not expecting it. It's the sign of a successful treatment. Emily will prepare you thoroughly so you know what's coming.

02. How is this different from a laser treatment? IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light while lasers use a single focused wavelength. Lumecca is better suited to treating multiple concerns across a larger area simultaneously — sun damage, redness, and vascular lesions in a single session. Laser treatments like CO2 or CoolPeel go deeper and address texture, resurfacing, and structural concerns that IPL doesn't reach. The two treatments serve different goals and are often used together as part of a comprehensive skin plan.

03. Is it safe for darker skin tones? Lumecca requires careful assessment for clients with olive to deeper skin tones. IPL targets melanin — which means the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is higher in darker complexions if the parameters aren't set correctly. Emily will be direct with you at consultation about whether Lumecca is appropriate for your specific skin tone and presentation, or whether an alternative approach is better suited to your skin.

04. Can I treat my hands and face in the same session? Yes — and it's one of the most popular combinations. Sun damage on the hands often responds as dramatically as the face, and treating both in a single appointment is efficient and effective. Discuss the areas you'd like to address at consultation and Emily will plan accordingly.
