Laser Hair Removal Diolaze XL Treatment

Permanent hair reduction. So you stop thinking about it entirely.

DiolazeXL is a medical-grade diode laser system — one of the most powerful and comfortable laser hair removal platforms available. Where older laser systems required significant discomfort management and were limited in the skin tones they could safely treat, DiolazeXL's built-in three-piece cooling technology and advanced diode laser deliver fast, effective, comfortable treatment across a wide range of skin tones and hair types.

The laser concentrates energy on the hair follicles during their active growth phase. The pigment in the follicle absorbs the laser energy, which damages or destroys the follicle's ability to produce hair. Treated follicles cannot regenerate strong hair growth — and with a full series, the reduction is permanent for the majority of follicles in the treatment area.

What it Treats:

DiolazeXL permanently reduces unwanted hair across virtually every area of the body.

Treatment areas include:

Face: Upper lip · Chin · Sideburns · Full face
Body: Underarms · Arms · Stomach · Chest · Back · Shoulders
Legs: Half leg · Full leg · Bikini line
Brazilian · Full body

If you're not sure whether your area is treatable, it almost certainly is — and Emily will confirm at consultation.

What to Expect:

Before your appointment:
Shave the treatment area within 12 hours of your session — the laser targets the follicle, not the surface hair, and shaving ensures the energy is directed where it needs to go. Arrive with clean skin, free of lotions, deodorant, or any topical products. Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading for at least six weeks before treatment — these methods remove the follicle temporarily and there needs to be something for the laser to target.

Avoid tanning — sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner — for three weeks before each session. Avoid retinoids, AHAs, and other photosensitising products for three days before. If you've used Accutane, a six-month gap is required.

During treatment:
Protective eye shields are placed before the session begins. Cooling gel is applied to the treatment area and the DiolazeXL handpiece passes systematically across the skin. The built-in cooling makes the experience significantly more comfortable than older laser systems — most clients describe it as a warm snap or mild stinging sensation. For sensitive areas like the bikini, underarms, and face, numbing cream is applied beforehand to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

Treatment time varies from 15 minutes for small areas to 60 to 90 minutes for larger areas or full body sessions.

After treatment:
Some redness and warmth in the treated area for a few hours is normal. Avoid sun exposure, heat, and friction for 24 to 48 hours. Hairs in the treated follicles will shed over the following one to three weeks — this is the treatment working. Do not wax or pluck between sessions — shaving only.

Results:

When: Reduction in hair growth is noticeable after the first session. Significant, lasting reduction builds across the full series

How long: Permanent reduction for the majority of treated follicles. Hormonal changes can stimulate new follicle activity over time — occasional maintenance sessions address this

What affects it: Hair colour and thickness, skin tone, the area being treated, hormonal factors, and consistency of completing the full series

Six sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart is the standard protocol — timed to capture follicles across their different growth cycles. Hair grows in stages and only follicles in the active growth phase respond to laser treatment, which is why multiple sessions are necessary and why spacing them correctly matters.

Most clients achieve 80 to 90% permanent reduction after a full series.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

DiolazeXL is appropriate for most adults looking to permanently reduce unwanted hair. It is most effective on darker hair — the laser targets melanin in the follicle, making it less effective on very fine, light blonde, grey, or white hair which lacks sufficient pigment to absorb the laser energy. If your hair is very light, Emily will be direct with you about what level of reduction is realistic.

It is not suitable during pregnancy. Active rashes, infections, or skin conditions in the treatment area need to be resolved before proceeding. If you have a history of keloid scarring or certain skin conditions in the treatment area, discuss this at consultation.

The Questions People Actually Ask:

01. Does it hurt? DiolazeXL's built-in cooling technology makes it one of the most comfortable laser hair removal systems available. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm snap — brief and entirely manageable. For sensitive areas, numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most people are genuinely surprised by how comfortable it is compared to what they were expecting.

02. How many sessions do I actually need? Six sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart is the standard starting protocol — and completing all six is what produces the lasting, significant reduction most clients are looking for. The reason multiple sessions are required is biological: hair grows in cycles and the laser only targets follicles in their active growth phase. Each session captures a different portion of follicles. Skipping sessions or extending the gaps too long affects the final outcome.

03. Will it work on my skin tone and hair colour? DiolazeXL is effective across a wide range of skin tones and hair types. It works best on darker hair — the laser targets the pigment in the follicle. Very light blonde, grey, or white hair doesn't contain enough melanin to absorb the laser energy effectively and won't respond as well. If you're concerned about your specific combination of skin tone and hair colour, Emily will give you an honest assessment at consultation about what level of reduction is realistic for you specifically.

04. Can I wax between sessions? No. Between sessions, shaving is the only method of hair removal you should use. Waxing, plucking, threading, and epilating remove the hair follicle from the root — which is what the laser needs to be present to target. If you remove the follicle, the subsequent session has nothing to work with. Shaving only.

05. What's the difference between laser and IPL hair removal? Laser hair removal uses a single, focused wavelength of light — more precise, more powerful, and more effective than IPL for permanent hair reduction. IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light, which is less targeted and typically requires more sessions for equivalent results. DiolazeXL is a true medical-grade diode laser — not an IPL system — which is why the results are more reliable and the reduction more permanent.
